On February 3rd, Twitter rolled out a site wide new design that baffled, delighted, confused, surprised, confounded and impressed users, depending on how much they use Twitter. It is of import, to note that the redesign is simply an aesthetic change, as opposed to a functional change. Twitter neither changed nor streamlined its interface in a new pattern nor did it inject any new functionality for its users (that is, except of the addition of color accents to your profile.)
The new redesign is said to be a reflection of the Twitter's iOS and Android app design. The primary and frankly, the only noticeable change that caught user's eyes was the navigation bar which was now completely white with a slightly broader dimension. Being a mobile first company, Twitter seems to be aiming at morphing its social network design into a single look across the devices, be it web or mobile.
Another noteworthy addition was the new feature of the header picture of the user's profile now visible on the home page as opposed to just on the "Me" (User profile) tab. Twitter has made it clear in their blog and through various updates that they are gearing to bring a greater visibility to the visual content that is circulated via the apps and the website and this design takes a tentative step in the same direction.
There is of course buzz going around that Twitter is rolling out yet another new design that completely changes the way Twitter users experience the interface, with a layout that resembles Facebook in its features. However, it would be better to wait and watch when and if it really happens to be able to fully critique it.
